Jori Poutanen is a Finnish-born artist shaped by two worlds—half a lifetime in Australia and roots deep in Nordic tradition. Now based in Cairns, he draws inspiration from where rainforest meets reef, capturing the raw beauty of tropical North Queensland.

Working primarily in oils, Jori blends tradition with experimentation, constantly exploring new techniques and perspectives. Art runs in his blood: from a wartime draftsman uncle who sketched history at the front lines, to a sailor father painting at sea.

Reserved by nature, like many Finns, Jori lets his work do the talking—painting the world as he sees it, and inviting others to see it through his eyes.
